Desert Rainbow and Ocotillos in Bloom

P2490523Yesterday’s storm front passed without producing any rain of consequence, as has been the usual pattern this whole past winter and spring 2017-2018. But at least there was a nice rainbow with a full-bloom ocotillo and a Joshua tree. Visual condolence prizes are acceptable in lieu of actual rainfall, I suppose.

P2490546.JPGWe even heard 4 or 5 rolls of thunder, well outside of the normal thunderstorm season which won’t arrive for about 3 more months. Although to be fair, we can hear thunder on occasion in every month of the year under the right circumstances here in Arizona.

P2490513.JPGAnyway, this isn’t a terrifically information-packed post, but I figured I would share some pretty photos of my local day to day environment in any case. Have a blessed day dear reader.

  1. We witnessed the red Ocotillo today April 11 2024 up in the Kofa Coservation area SE of Quartzsite. So why are they red now.

    1. Did you see one with red leaves, or red flowers at the end of stems with green leaves? If you saw several with red leaves but most were green, then it’s a local occurrence and is probably related to recent dryness and the plants going into dormancy again.
